Dear Colleagues and Esteemed Participants,
We are delighted to host the Congress on Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery, organized by the “Association for Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery,” as the Neurosurgery Clinic of Etlik City Hospital, University of Health Sciences.
As you know, Movement Disorders Surgery and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) practices have a long-standing history in Türkiye, and in recent years, Türkiye has ranked among the top three countries worldwide in terms of the frequency of DBS procedures. We are excited to observe that, as in the rest of the world, interest in deep brain stimulation and movement disorders surgery has been rapidly increasing in our country as well. This outcome should be regarded as a shared success of the Neurosurgeons and Neurologists working in this field.
This congress was planned approximately two years ago during the association's general assembly and has been meticulously prepared to strengthen developments in our field and multidisciplinary collaboration. Our main objective is to ensure the training of and attract the interest of especially young Neurosurgeons and Neurology Specialists in this field. In light of the growing interest and advancements, it is of great importance to come together to share up-to-date scientific knowledge, discuss innovative techniques, and enhance experience in the field of movement disorders.
As a policy of our association, we generally organize our meetings in low-cost training halls rather than high-cost hotels, aiming to increase the participation of young professionals and reduce expenses. We also keep the participation fee considerably low. In these meetings, we make sure that participants focus on education and scientific sharing. We extend our special thanks to the speakers who accepted our invitation and agreed to participate without expecting any compensation.
During the congress, we will also conduct a live DBS surgery for educational purposes. We believe there will be an opportunity to discuss the techniques with the trainers present in the hall during this application.
Additionally, we will have very distinguished international guest speakers from the Netherlands. One of them is Dr. Maria Fiorella Contario from the Department of Neurology at Leiden University. As you know, she is a world-renowned expert in movement disorders neurology and Deep Brain Stimulation programming techniques. The other is Dr. Saman Vinke from the Department of Neurosurgery at Radboud University; he works on new DBS targeting and imaging methods, and is also a scientist who has contributed to the functional neurosurgery literature on many topics such as the cingulum, microelectrodes, and more.
Our Association attaches great importance to establishing collaborations and affiliations with international scientific societies such as WSSFN (World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery), ESSFN, MSSFN, WFNS, INS, and IP & MDS in the context of its international meetings. We are therefore pleased to formally announce that this Congress has been successfully affiliated with ESSFN, WSSFN, and MSSFN.
We believe that the congress will provide a productive platform for scientific interactions and exchanges that will add value to both academic and clinical practice. We would be honored and pleased to have you among us at this important gathering.
Respectfully,
